Saintleo was founded by Leon McKay in 2017, after studying and working in fabrication and furniture making in Australia. It began as a workshop focused on architectural projects and fabrication, with the goal of continuing a creative practice centered on design and detail.
Currently, Saintleo is a personal platform for design and furniture, produced globally and inspired by art, music, and craftsmanship. Producing limited-edition pieces and collaborates internationally.
This 50kg bench seat, made entirely from aluminum was created for the Paererewa 1000 project as a first iteration. Its surface features a unique ombré finish - sandblasted at the top and gradually transitioning into a mirror-polished base. The design draws inspiration from the natural wear of outdoor furniture in harsh environments, in this case exposed to sand and wind. The reflective base is intended to visually dissolve into its environment, mirroring its surroundings rather than competing with them.
